“The best equipped sailing centre in the Mediterranean” is Minorca Sailing’s description of itself. A week or even two at this specialist sailing and windsurfing resort in Ses Salines near Fornells, is a treat for new and experienced sailors and windsurfers.
In the North of Minorca, some 25 minutes from the airport, Ses Salines is easily accessible, and if you book your flights through Minorca Sailing, their coach will transfer you to and from the airport.
Minorca is small and so the whole island is within a reasonable driving distance for those who want to explore, but most customers at Minorca Sailing spend their days on or around the water. It caters for all ages, for family holidays, couples, singles or groups. The available accommodation ranges from hotel rooms to apartments of various sizes to larger villas, some with private pools. All are clean, adequately fitted and well maintained. The on-hand staff are readily available to deal with any glitches, as well as with any special requirements: everybody is helpful. Within Ses Salines village there is a general store catering for all basic needs, and Ca Na Maga restaurant is an excellent eating out option. Nearby villages provide local dining alternatives.
But the sailing and windsurfing facilities are the reason to make this trip. You do not need to bring any major kit, as all is provided. Sail boats of every size are available all day, Single-handers and Asymmetrics. The selection of windsurfing boards and sails covers the spectrum. Instructors for both activities, as well as paddle-boarding, are at your service all day: in groups in the morning with such tuition as you choose; a racing option after lunch; and all afternoon the possibility of one on one instruction, or simply doing your own water thing.
For families, youngsters are also taught in appropriate age groups (with a creche for under 4s), enjoying a similar daily programme to the adults. As to safety, Minorca Sailing believes its motorised safety boats provide the best safety cover for a sailing centre in the world. The bay of Fornells itself is landlocked, giving a special environment for these water sports. Given the shared activities, the fact that all participants are resident in the small village and the instructors and other staff are there to enjoy themselves too, the atmosphere is exceptionally friendly and you can enjoy as social a holiday as you may want, while getting appropriate qualification certificates, should you want to.
If you want to learn, improve or hone your skills this is an outstanding holiday.
