The UK is being terrorised. The UK is being divided by actors who see disruption as a weapon to weaken. Politicians and influential people in all sectors must display unity and boldness against those who seek the UK’s reduction. The success of the terrorists is plainly evidenced by the growth in antisemitism and the rise of Islamist influence and activism in the UK. But at the moment the political classes are using these issues to some extent to electioneer.
WHO ARE THE TERRORISTS?
Putin, the Chinese Communist Party and Iran’s Islamists at least are regimes openly committed to disrupt and divide Western Democracies. The UK security services consistently emphasise that these states are all active in causing cyber mayhem, and in some cases, particularly Russia and Iran, openly plotting to murder by terror or destroy infrastructure.
Is it a safe assumption that whenever these states see a minority cause having adverse implications on UK society they will in varying degrees encourage and support that at least behind the scenes? Perhaps the most insidious and dangerous terrorists in plain sight are the hard-line Islamists, who are committed to the establishment of Sharia law as government around the world, and in the most extreme cases will commit whatever violence they choose to promote their cause. If there is any doubt about their intent, perhaps a brief look at the Islamist driven conflicts in Africa will dispel it.
Al-Shebaad, an Al Qaeda offshoot, is a lead protagonist in Somalia, where hundreds of thousands are being murdered or are displaced, and now they are active in Kenya and Ethiopia apparently. JNIM and ISGS are Islamist groups spreading violence in Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger. ISWAP and Boko Haram do the same in Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin. The Saleh Region of Africa is the Islamist stomping ground. And of course, the genocidal Iran leadership, Hamas and Hezbollah are now well understood to be Islamist extremists. Sometimes these groups compete with each other, but they all seek death to non-believer opponents and the dominance of Sharia Rule.
It is important and obvious that ordinary Muslims are not conflated with these extremists. Just as it is important not to conflate Jews worldwide with Zionists or Israeli leaders, or all Chinese with Xi, or all Russians with Putin. But to some degree perhaps this conflation is actually happening in the UK and it is dividing society as regards Jews and Muslims.
ANTISEMITISM BRINGS SHAME ON THE UK
There are horrific incidents of violence against Jews but perhaps the most frightening fact is shown by a survey of British Universities where 20% of students said they would not share accommodation with a Jew. How have they been so brainwashed? Is there a clever and systematic, well-orchestrated campaign of incitement of hatred of Jews? What part do Islamists play? Pro Gaza Palestinian demonstrations are attended by many worthy protesters driven by the Gazan plight and hating the Israeli war on Hamas because it is devastating civilian Gaza. But extremists, as often in otherwise lawful protests, are always evident with anti-Jew slogans. They use our freedom of speech laws to promote antisemitism. The increase in anti-Jewish crime has multiplied since Hamas invaded Israel. Jews in the UK are said to be hiding their faith in some areas. And the recent arson attacks with 4 Jewish Hatzola volunteer ambulances set on fire is a sorry example of Jewish hate crime, those charged with the offence being allegedly members of Islamic Ashab Al-Yamin. Yet we still have politicians like Corbyn, who Starmer once supported, eulogising Hamas and Hezbollah, that is supporting genocide. Now Green Party activists “Greens for Palestine” are reported to be describing Jews as “an abomination”.
Now the Labour Government wrings its hands at the numerous antisemitic attacks, but rarely does it or the Police actively and publicly do much. In particular, they are low key about the destructive and evil Islamist extremism which seeks to destroy the UK and Jews with it. Is there a reason for this inactivity? Is it fear?
ISLAMIST EXTREMISTS MUST BE CONFRONTED
The equality of people before the law and in terms of outlawing abuse of any particular peaceful sect is well embedded in our values and plenty of laws. Abusing people because of their religion is outlawed. Muslims, like Hindus and Christians, are protected. However, the recent adoption by Government, albeit not statutory, of a definition of anti-Muslim Hostility indicates a wish to give them special status. This is totally unnecessary to protect them as the law already does so now. Just like it does for other groups. It is highly divisive to single out a group in this way. Undoubtedly, it will be wholly abused by Islamists to enable them to get away with more atrocious behaviour, including antisemitism, as they will cry AMH at every criticism of them. Activists will call AMH in aid. Only Islamists are benefitting.
The authorities are strongly criticised for not pursuing vigorously and publicly denouncing Pakistani Muslim grooming gangs. Apparently, activists openly spread hatred in many mosques. And the Guardian recently publicised an article which criticised the bakery Gail’s, which once was Jewish owned, for opening up near a Palestinian Café: they defended physical violent attacks on the Gail’s Bakery. Institutions which divide society in this way are irresponsible.
A well-known Imam Professor Taj Hargey, founder of the Oxford Institute For British Islam, reportedly condemns the public prayer displays of male Muslims such as in Trafalgar Square recently as acts of domination. He accuses Starmer of cowardice and Labour of pandering to extremist Islamists, not confronting them. Michael Deacon in the Telegraph abhors the case of a Batley teacher who was hounded out of his job for offending Muslims with a caricature of the prophet Mohammed, and who has been in hiding for 5 years with his family. Also, the UK depends on the good work of security services to stop Islamist bomb and knife attacks. There are allegations of a fear endemic in UK Government and authorities, the fear of giving offence to Muslims. However, by not hounding and removing from society all Islamists vigorously and publicly, Starmer and his crew are perhaps risking tarring all Muslims with the Islamist brush which is a disaster and wrong. Or is Labour dependent on the Muslim vote and fearful too of putting that at risk?
On the other hand, Farage, for Reform, also politicises the issue by advocating banning all public prayer. Some want to abolish the wearing of the Hijab. Conservative Badenoch is considering a policy to ban the burqa. There has clearly been an increase in anti-Muslim crime since the invasion of Israel by Islamists, but nothing like the antisemitism. But any racism of this sort is to be abhorred.
ENEMIES MUST BE CONFRONTED OR THE UK DIES
Islamists are an enemy within the UK and outside it, as well as an enemy across Europe. They cannot be allowed surely to abuse the freedoms which the UK values to spread disunity and hatred. Government must lead a campaign which all citizens, including normal British Muslims, can get behind to condemn the Islamists who advocate Sharia law to govern this country or commit or incite acts of hatred or crime against others. The UK’s enemies are thriving on and spreading division. Unifying policies of zero tolerance against them are the best protection.
