As the USA seeks to impose its peace plan for Ukraine, its President Trump disgraces his country.
Trump and his acolytes display their godly aspirations with a peace proposal which they pretend is a deal. The word deal is a misnomer as it requires surrender by Ukraine and accession to the outrageous demands of the murderer Putin, that is capitulation. But Trump proudly declares his Putin friendship, continuing to reveal the Trump disdain for other human beings, as his friend: –
- Continues to pursue his invasion of an independent nation without any legal basis, designed to re-establish his empire
- Daily murders Ukrainian civilians in their homes with drones and missiles
- Destroys Ukrainian energy generation and other infrastructure, pursuing his openly declared wish to destroy the nation if he cannot take it over, intending Ukrainians to die of cold in misery
- Instructs the rape of Ukrainian women and mass killings
- Steals thousands of children from their parents, disappearing them into Russia, for brainwashing, and in some cases training them to fight against their parents and compatriots
- Lies and cheats as it suits him
- Tortures and murders political opponents
- Wages a war of sabotage and destabilisation against democracies in the West
- Is denounced as a war criminal
Trump’s chief negotiator, property billionaire Steve Witkoff says “I don’t regard Putin as a bad guy”.
This war could be ended tomorrow if Putin would withdraw from his invasion. It could also be ended if Trump declared Putin the bad guy and treated Russia accordingly by maximising commercial and military assets against him, and if Europe were to do the same. But Trump, the bully par excellence, cannot endure the idea of possibly losing, in that Putin will not bow to him: he certainly will not. So, Trump turns the screw on Zelensky and Ukraine to do Putin’s will, now adopted by Trump, even though it is evil. And Trump does not contemplate he can be wrong, as he is in his own world of narcissism, always right.
And so now the rest of the Western world, and most importantly Ukraine, is being told to accept the USA’s peace proposal which gives Putin nearly all of his wishes, the entire Donbas and a castrated Ukrainian defence force, hanging Ukraine out to dry, sidelining NATO. The USA is proposed to be a massive beneficiary of the use of $100 billion of Russian assets to be used in the Ukraine rebuild suggesting the USA be entitled to half the profits arising, as well as other accommodations with Russia. All other Russian assets abroad get returned, about $250 billion rather than used to rebuild Ukraine. And the criminal murderer Putin is to be welcomed back to the global community, all wrongdoing forgiven, a clean slate for him and his mafia. What an insult to 40 million Ukrainians, displaced as refugees, dead or maimed, perhaps all mental wrecks, many parents whose children have been stolen. Most arrogantly such proposal is devised without consulting Ukraine or Europe generally, all of whom will have to continue to live under the threat of Putin’s aggression.
This peace proposal of course requires Putin to agree not to attack Ukraine or other countries, but Putin, it is known by all, gives no respect to agreements or promises and nothing he agrees is worth a candle. Otherwise, he has few obligations that matter. So, he will win all. And in due course be free to attack whoever he likes, always threatening the nuclear Armageddon if he is resisted. Trump knows all this but perhaps sees it as tomorrow’s and somebody else’s problem.
Now is the time for Europe, including the UK, to stand tall and stop kneeling at the Oval Office throne.Time to be willing to let the USA walk away from its promises to support Ukraine and its NATO commitment if it chooses, and stand on Europe’s own feet, and defend Ukraine. Time to use Russian assets held in Europe to finance Ukraine – so far, the restraint from so doing is based on fear of legal action, incredible weakness when faced with existential threats from the modern Hitler. Time to get citizens of Europe to understand they may have to make sacrifices, to ramp up to a war footing in effect, and move finance from useless and damaging welfare rather to be spent on defence to ensure defeat of Putin. Time in other words for real courage and unity, steel. Do the Europeans and UK have that, or will the marshmallow politicians win? The approach all through 2025 of placating the ludicrous egoism and dishonesty and arrogance of Trump on behalf of the USA needs to be discarded and retreating whenever the Putin dog barks must stop.
Putin makes Trump and his team look amateurish and weak, that is losers. But the most disgusting revelation of all is the willingness and aims of this USA Government to throw innocent Ukrainian people to the Putin wolf and discard all promises the USA government made before to support Ukraine against this immense Russian evil. As the leader of democracy and the most powerful nation in the world, the USA has a huge responsibility, and yet it chooses a path which is amoral and dishonest. Shame on them.
The USA can continue its moral vacuum as it chooses, but now is the time for real values and principles of truth and democratic and human unity to be asserted to win. UK and Europe please stand up, and do not shame your citizens as Trump shames his.
