Christmas is coming and if you plan to be cooking over the holiday period there are lots of suggestions in these pages to encourage you to perhaps try something new, modify some old favourites or inspire you to invent something completely different.
But it’s important to enjoy doing it; so a bit of planning ahead with that in mind makes sense.
It’s also important not to try to do too much – there is no shame in getting some things ready-made and that should ease what can be a huge burden on the cook at Christmas.
As ever Sherbhert relies predominantly on locally sourced, ethically produced food.
The Christmas food post from 2020 see Need to Talk About Christmas Food? gives lots of suggestions for a range of seasonal foods which Sherbhert continues to recommend, such as Christmas Vodka, Christmas Mincemeat Dessert Cake, Leek, Bacon and Sage Stuffing, Cheese Shortbreads and lots and lots of other good things.
There are also some ideas in more recent posts which you may like to include such as to add some garlic and a hint of chilli to your brussels sprouts or other greens see Cavolo Nero (or other greens) with Orange Zest, Garlic, and Chilli or if you like to prepare as much as possible in advance, try Beetroots Roasted with Herbs and Optional Carrots – An easy recipe and use them as suggested or reheat them in a pan for a few minutes.
An excellent alternative Christmas meal.could be SLOW-COOKED SHORT RIB OF BEEF WITH ROOT VEGETABLES, GREENS AND HORSERADISH CREAM OR MUSTARD DRESSING It’s simple to cook, and it’s delicious. Apple Dessert Cake with optional sultanas in sherry or dessert wine is a simple alternative seasonal pudding too.
And another great British Cheese to add to the list is Flower Marie – a soft, gently flavoured unpasteurised ewe’s milk cheese.
In general, when taking on the Christmas food preparation, “keep it simple and serve it well” tends to be a sound formula.
Finally, if you are looking for a lovely food gift for a keen cook, you might consider some Norfolk Saffron, see Saffron – England’s Red Gold, or some Liberty Fields Apple Balsamic Vinegar, both outstanding British products.
