At the edge of the Thames in Hammersmith, the situation of Sam’s Riverside restaurant makes it a special place to be, but the food is good too.
Watched from a distance, this restaurant looks to have shown great resilience in the face of lockdown and all its consequences for this business sector. They even managed to open a food shop, Sam’s Larder, just around the corner from the restaurant. This was a brave move but has resulted in a delightful neighbourhood store which has become a well-loved place in the local community. Hospitality has certainly been about survival of the fittest and they seem to have come out of it well.
The restaurant is a delightful place to have lunch or supper and, when busy, has a buzz. The staff are friendly and efficient, and the seasonal menu is nicely put together with starters and mains ranging from simple to complex. The Sherbhert current favourites are:
Starters
Green and Yellow Courgettes with Lemon Verbena Dressing and
Clams and Braised Trotters with White Beans
Mains
Rare Breed Hampshire Pork Chop with Charred Peach, Cavolo Nero and Spring Onion and
Roasted Cornish Hake with Savoy Cabbage, Pancetta, Clams and Sweetcorn Velouté
There is also lots of seafood – oysters, lobsters, crabs, razor clams and so on. And a range of tasty pre-lunch or dinner nibbles and some good Keen’s butter with proper sourdough bread.
There is a tempting list of puddings, and the cheeses are all British and delicious.
There is a wide-ranging drinks menu which happily includes three delightful wines from Gusbourne Wines in Appledore, Kent – Brut Reserve, Rose and Blanc de Blancs which are Sherbhert favourites.
Sam’s restaurant is also linked with Phoenix Farm in White City where they host pop-up wine tastings with food when the weather permits – sounds absolutely lovely.
