Five Fields Restaurant – London SW3

by Sherbhert Editor

Blacklands Terrace, Chelsea is the home of this special restaurant which apparently gets its name from that given to this area of Belgravia in the time of the Tudors.

With just a set tasting menu available, the food is described as modern British and seasonal. It has its own kitchen garden in Sussex which, according to the website, provides an abundance of produce. Abundance is not a word to be used regarding the quantity of each plate of food served, but there is super abundance of art, skill, service, flavour, quality, décor and, despite what you might expect from such an apparently high-end joint, a calm, palpably relaxed ambience. Don’t go for a quick lunch or for supper when you can’t be bothered to cook – this place deserves your full attention – its rather like going to an art gallery exhibiting fabulous and irresistible, edible art served up by charming, dedicated people.

The menu is set according to the season with seven small, stunningly crafted courses each served with exquisite care and attention to detail.  Homemade sourdough and soda breads are generously offered throughout and are perhaps necessary if you take one of the thoughtful wine pairings. The seven courses are likely to be enough for most appetites but if you want more there are two optional extras – a cheese course and coffee with petit fours all, as you will expect by the time you get to those bits, served with artful care and attention.

It’s very special.
