Spenwood – An Award-Winning British Cheese

by Sherbhert Editor

This is a versatile hard-pressed cheese made by Village Maid Cheese in Berkshire. A family run company founded by Anne Wigmore. The company has a nice back story which can be found at www.villagemaidcheese.co.uk

Hardly surprising that this delicious cheese is an award winner.

Spenwood is made from the milk of Friesian sheep. It is matured for a minimum of six months when it has a sweet, nutty flavour and is a delicious cheese to have at breakfast or maybe as part of a selection of nibbles with charcuterie. At twelve months it becomes granular and more dry, similar to Pecorino, Parmesan or Manchego and so is good for grating over pasta or for using in Cheese Shortbreads.
